You’ve seen the you tube videos. You’ve tested the death grip on your own phone and your friends’ phones. PCmag.com recently conducted a death grip test on several phones. Let’s take a look at their findings:
• The Apple iPhone 4 provided no surprises. The death grip lessened the amount of bars on the phone as we covered the bottom half of the phone in a tight, left-handed grip.
• The T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide came next. We used the same death grip as the iPhone and saw the numbers change drastically; the phone went from -79 to -89 dBm.
• The HTC Droid Incredible fared a little better than the previous two phones. By using a death grip of both hands covering the phone we saw the results go from -57 to -64 dBm.
• Applying the death grip to the Motorola Droid X can be difficult, as it has antennas at both the top and bottom of the phone. We used two hands on this larger phone and saw the numbers fluctuate quite a bit, going from -52 to -63dbm.
• The BlackBerry Bold was a little more resistant to the death grip but after getting a good (and somewhat awkward) hold of it with two hands, we saw the signal strength go from -80 to -87 dBm.
• Last up came the newly released Samsung Captivate. The Captivate went from -81 to-97 dBm after we applied the standard left-handed grip.

Ever find yourself playing one of those addictive console or PC games all night long and all of a sudden you look at the time and it’s almost sunrise? No big deal, right? You’d expect this from extreme gamers, especially those who play MMORPGs. I won’t mention the acronym that starts with “W.”
How about 50 CONSECUTIVE hours? Six dutch gamers played Red Dead Redemption on PS3 for 50 hours, breaking the previous world record of 40 hours and 20 minutes set by Chirantan Patnaik of India. A new geek squad has been crowned!

Android market has grown from 45,000 apps to 70,000 apps. Thats huge and it was named the fastest growing app store. But was it really? When Steve Jobs had its keynote with the iPhone 4 two months ago, he announced their App Store had 185,000 apps. Two months later? ….. 225,000 apps. Whoa! And we aren’t talking open sourced, half coded by apps 12 year old kids like those found on the Android Market, we are talking about Apps approved by the notorious Apple, who’s known for rejecting and pulling unstable apps. In fact, on top of that 225,000 apps thats currently available, Apple actually removed a staggering 37,000 apps that were useless, haven’t been updated in months, or just had bad coding after updates.
The Apple app store is always fresh day to day, week to week with new apps. One problem with Android? The same apps that were top 10 back in 2008, are still the same top apps. Nothing new, BORING. Not sounding fanboy or nothing, I do carry Android and iOS, I love Android features, but the Android market just plain suck for entertainment and games. Keep in mind this is just Apps, not including the movies, tutorials, podcasts, albums, and many more unknown stuff thats on iTunes. Example, guitar lesson videos. Just so much more content and support with iOS that I prefer. Just my opinion. Here is a chart that has numerous of sources posted at the end of the chart.

Look at what we have here! Looks like Verizon is right on time to deploy their LTE 4G network in 30 major cities by the end of this year. I’m pretty excited about this and of course this raises thoughts in your head. With Verizon launching 4G so soon, AT&T is behind. Earlier in the year AT&T said there is plenty of room for 3G left to expand. AT&T are instead upgrading its 3G to 7.2 mbps. Now while that is cool, and still fast to people who actually know what that is, the average consumer wont think so. All the average consumer see is higher number. AT&T = 3G, Verizon = 4G, so Verizon = better data. Thats the equation vast majority of people will see and it will come back to bite AT&T in the ass.
This also makes you wonder about the first LTE 4G phones that will be out. I’m guessing it will be low end flip phones or messaging phones. But they can pull a Sprint and come out with a big boy LTE 4G Android phone, which would be AWESOME. As quickly as Android phones are coming out, I wouldn’t doubt it. We will see!

If you didn’t have a chance to listen to Steve Jobs speak about the iPhone 4’s antenna issue, go to YouTube and take a look. (July 16, 2010)
For iPhone 4 users, did he answer all of the questions that you had? Did you feel that he was being sincere? Was his strategy of showing how the infamous “death grip” affected a Windows Mobile phone, an Android Phone, and a RIM phone convince you that the iPhone 4 is not alone with its antenna issues? Are you satisfied with his solution of issuing FREE bumpers to customers? We’d love to hear from you. And remember, “We’re not perfect. Phones aren’t perfect.” – Steve Jobs

As reported on DroidForums.net the Google Android device that started it all on Verizon is approaching retirement. This is to be expected as its replacement, the DROID 2, will be launched in the near future. The original DROID may be the phone of choice for modifiers, as the DROID X and DROID 2 are rumored to have locked boot loaders which will prevent custom ROMS. For anyone considering picking up this phone, now is a great time to do it. Currently it is being offered for $149.99 with new 2 year agreement and is buy one get one free with a second 2 year agreement.
